Free American flags

Free American flags will be handed out Thursday at the intersection of Highway 14, Barnett Boulevard and Friendship Road in Tallassee.

Combat veteran Dr. Greg Dubay and fellow members of Operation Combat Bikesaver will hand out free American flags Thursday at the intersection of Highway 14, Barnett Boulevard and Friendship Road in Tallassee.

“Last year I had an idea to remind people what the Fourth of July really means so I purchased 75 flags, went to Five Points on the Fourth dressed in my old combat fatigues and began handing them out and within 30 minutes all were dispensed,” Dubay said. “The response was an exhilarating and humbling experience, one I’ll never forget.”

Dubay has increased the number of flags he plans to hand out to 750 and any funds he raises will go to Operation Combat Bikesaver to assist Tallassee-area veterans suffering from PTSD.

If all goes well, Dubay said he plans to offer more free flags next year with an attached copy of the Declaration of Independence.
