Every time the City of Alexander City elects to build something new, it means one major thing: It needs funding.

In the case of the new Imagination Station, that was no different.

When it was first decided the old Imagination Station had to come down, people were up in arms. They worried what would happen to the old handprints that decorated the walls, and they were concerned there wouldn’t be enough for area children to do at a low cost.

But there’s something magical brewing at the new Imagination Station, and it’s finally opening today with its soft opening at Oktoberfest in Alexander City.

One of the most impressive things about the Imagination Station is the way it was funded, and that was done through fundraising. The citizens of Alexander City along with businesses across Tallapoosa County came together in a way that was truly incredible to see. That funding supported the Imagination Station, which totaled $435,000.

This was a way of making a dream come to life without breaking the budget of any one entity.

And if you think $435,000 for a playground is something to scoff at, think again. Playground equipment is expensive, and this was no small undertaking.

The Outlook staff got a chance to play on the Imagination Station on Friday afternoon, and we are thoroughly impressed with the magnitude of the playground and also its inclusive nature. There’s something for everyone with two large playgrounds — one for younger children and one for older. There’s also sensory equipment and learning stations. It’s truly a sight to see.

We definitely encourage you to get out and support your local business community at Oktoberfest today, but make sure you check out what all of our hard earned funds went toward. And don’t miss the handprint wall; the way they are utilized is truly beautiful.
