We want to take a second to applaud all the towns, churches and organizations for all they did to make Halloween this year one to remember.

Halloween is a true spectacle for kids. It’s the one time of year where everyone — adults included — get a chance to pretend to be whoever they want to be. They can be police officers and doctors or superheroes and Power Rangers. They can be nurses and teachers or get creative and be popcorn or ranch dressing.

Homemade costumes are always some of our favorites, seeing how creative youngsters can get to be who they want to be.

We also applaud all the adults who take Halloween to the extreme. Oftentimes when adults dress up, whether to cosplay or just to express themselves, they can be met with odd stares or interesting questions. But Halloween’s that perfect time when everyone takes their judgment glasses off for just a day and enjoys the fun.

This year, some places went above and beyond the call of duty celebrating children and their imaginations. The Cooper Recreation Center held a carnival featuring games, a few small haunted houses and some great inflatable slides for the children. The Town of Rockford went all out with their celebrations as trick-or-treaters lined the downtown streets then made their way to the playground for a glow-in-the-dark maze.

First United Methodist Church held a great pumpkin patch, allowing kids to get all shapes and sizes of pumpkins throughout the month of October.

It’s amazing what a little bit of effort and creativity will bring you and what coming together as a town can truly mean for a youngster growing up in a small town.
