It was a battle of the heavyweights on Tuesday night as Elmore County hosted Wetumpka and Valley for its first home match of the season.
While the home team picked up a victory against Valley — as did Wetumpka — it was the cross-county matchup that was most contested. Ultimately, Wetumpka bested the Panthers, 45-27.
In some highlights of the match, Wetumpka’s Jack Brown came away with an impressive win over Luke Reinert via a third-period pin at 190 pounds.
Although Wetumpka won, the Indians weren’t the only ones with strong victories on the mat. Elmore County reigning state champion Tyler Payton put on a show at 150 pounds, dominating Wetumpka’s Brantley Woodall with a first-period pin.
Conner Pike, of Elmore County, also earned a fall in the first period by defeating Wetumpka’s Jona Stone at 175 pounds.
