When it comes to eateries, Tallassee may soon have an additional option to choose from.
Last week Mayor Johnny Hammock announced on social media that American Deli would soon be coming to Tallassee.
“It’s not finalized yet, but I don’t see anything that will stop it from opening,” said Andy Coker, building inspector for the City of Tallassee. “I emailed them Friday to see if they have any time frames in place, but I haven’t heard back from them, yet.”
According to Coker, plan approval for American Deli passed the Planning Commission’s desk back in March.
“They have done all of their prelim stuff and there were several conversations about when they might begin work, “ he said. “They are proposing to put in by the Verizon store.”
Representatives for American Deli have visited the prospective store site and plans have been implemented to accommodate the franchise business.
“The pre-existing part of the building would be the kitchen,” he said. “They would build an addition to the store front and that would be the seating area.”
This would create a larger seating area than what is currently available.
While nothing has been finalized, expectations are high that this new dining option will soon be available in Tallassee.
“There is nothing that has happened that makes me think that it’s not going to happen,” Coker said.
American Deli is a fast-food restaurant chain that serves a variety of savory dishes such as subs, gyros, Philly cheesesteaks and hot wings.
The first American Deli store opened in 1989 in the South DeKalb Mall in Atlanta. The second store opened in Columbus, Georgia shortly thereafter. Since that time the establishment has been growing slowly but steadily throughout the Southeast and Texas.
The restaurant chain is owned and operated by American Deli International Inc. and is incorporated in the state of Delaware and Georgia. Its chief executive officer is Chong C. Kim. The secretary is Eun Young Kim. The chief financial officer is Suk Kim Yon.
The chain currently has over 100 locations, mostly located in the Southeast region. There are locations throughout Georgia, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
