Tallassee Chamber

Cliff Williams / TPI Tallassee Chamber of Commerce president Michelle Cole, left, speaks after new board members were sworn in during a luncheon at Community Hospital last week.

The Tallassee Chamber of Commerce has seven new board members but they are not strangers to Tallassee or the chamber.

Chamber president Michelle Cole said she didn’t realize what all the chamber did until she became more involved as a board member and now president.

Tallassee Chamber ambassadors

Cliff Williams / TPI Members of the Tallassee Chamber of Commerce executive committee and board pose with chamber ambassadors from Tallassee High School following last week’s luncheon.

“We're where the community building business is probably the best answer that I can give people,” Cole said. “We're trying to make positive influences and differences in our community. We just want partner with leaders and businesses to try to see what we can do to make a difference in our community”

Cole said she doesn’t work alone. She works alongside chamber executive director Jerry Cunningham and the chamber board. Cunningham said the chamber doesn’t have many financial resources but works hard through volunteer work to make a difference in the community.

“We're trying to find ways that we can make a difference in our community,” Cunningham said. “We don't have a lot of resources, but we start by asking, what can we do with our resources? It can be simple like putting lights on top of buildings. That's not a tremendous expense, but it's something that makes a difference in the community.”

Community Hospital hosted chamber’s annual luncheon where Joe Hudson Collison’s Matt Rogers, Jackson Surgical Center’s April Warren, East Tallassee Church of Christ’s Mike Whisenhunt, MAX Credit Union’s Dustin Funerburk, GKN’s Geoff Boyd, Neptune’s Abe Rigsby and Eagle Motors Mike Durham were sworn in.

“It is important enough that those who couldn’t attend the luncheon wanted to call in to be sworn in,” Cunningham said.

The new members join Brad Davis, Lauryn Beckham, Vanessa Farmer, Claire Scroggins, Josh Epperson, Cylan Daniel, Nancy Wiginton, Laura Leigh Peters and Ashley Hammonds on the board.

Joining Cole on the executive committee are Logan Steers, Joey Wiginton, Anna Rogers, Noah Griggs, Corrie Sid, Beckham and Cunningham.

The luncheon saw the 10 Tallasse High School chamber ambassadors recognized: Jacee Faulk, Nevaeh Hicks, Cadence Hill, Madison Hughes, Kinsley Kennebrew, Lily Love, Amari Parker, Bryson Rigsby, Haley Scoggins and Rush Wright.
