“Like always we had some deputies at a few of the polling locations helping direct traffic,” Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said. “That was really needed at Mulder Church in the Redland community and in Kent. There was some interest in voting this time.”

In Kent, 1,121 of the 1,614 voters voted in person. At Kowaliga Fire Department 73.22% of the 1,318 registered voters cast ballots. Mulder saw 4,803 of 7,528 voters cast ballots.

Incumbent Elmore County District 5 commissioner Desirae Lewis Jackson received 3,024 votes to Jacqueline Long Thomas’ 1,995 votes. It’s a district that covers parts of Millbrook, Holtville and Wetumpka.

Jackson said the campaign for reelection showed how unified Elmore County and the Fifth Commission district has become.

“Four years ago I ran on the promise of unifying our district,” Jackson said. (Tuesday’s) election results show we have done just that. The people of District 5 have shown that what means most to our community are results, not divisive rhetoric. I am humbled by the support our campaign has received from our district and for the outpouring of support from our county.”

In Coosada, Jackson collected 376 votes to Thomas’ 220. In Millbrook, Jackson again bested Thomas 1,617 to 1,068.
