It is always an underappreciated aspect of the life lesson learned through sports.

The first being teamwork. There is not an aspect in life, whether it be throughout school or into your career, that does not involve teamwork. Especially when first entering sports at a young age, you are presented with people from different walks of life, all coming together for a common goal.

When we think of sports, we think of wins and losses, concepts you’ll face all through life. Sports teach you how to deal with both sides of the coin to avoid being a sore-winner or sore-loser. And more than anything else, sports teach you how to overcome those hurdles and not let them affect you in the long run.

Coaches play just as much of a role in that. Even if some prioritize the X’s and O’s of the game, others help prepare you for things much further down the road. We see the coach do so at the local level.

Whether it be the culture they establish and how well you represent the program, even when your jersey is off — or the coach who prioritizes your academics, not just for eligibility but to help get you to the college of your dreams — the coaches we meet teach you lessons that translate even when your playing career is over.

Just think, in 10 years, you won’t remember the final score, but you will remember all the lessons you learned along the way.
