The Tallassee Police Department has arrested a Tuskegee man wanted in connection to a Wednesday fatal shooting of a 28-year-old male.
“Robdarius Smith surrendered himself to law enforcement in Butler County, Alabama,” Tallassee police Lt. Jon Rawls said. “ He was transported to the Tallapoosa County Jail.”
Smith surrendered Friday after his identity was revealed earlier in the day by law enforcement. No bond has been set for Smith.
Central Alabama Crimestoppers said in a release Smith was possibly armed with an AR-15 style firearm, which investigators say was used in Wednesday’s shooting.
Wednesday’s shooting occurred on Washington Street just across the Funtasic Fort and the Tallassee Fire Department Station 2.
Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney Mike Segrest said on his Facebook page Wednesday night he was aware of the shooting and spoke with law enforcement that was on the scene. He said there is no immediate danger to the public.
“The suspect is still at large but this is believed to be an isolated incident,” Segrest wrote. “There is no immediate threat of danger to the community other than the random acts of violence that we are all subjected to daily.”
Segrest said he had asked for help from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the State Bureau of Investigation.
Law enforcement left the scene about 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Assisting the Tallassee Police Department was the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department, the Eclectic Police Department, the Tuskegee Police Department, the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Marshals Task Force, Haynes Ambulance and Tallapoosa County coroner Mike Knox.
Authorities have not released the name of the victim.
