Taylor Hicks

Taylor Hicks will be returning to Lake Martin for the fireworks show at The Amp on July 4.

From the American Idol stage to Lake Martin, Taylor Hicks is coming back to town.

For the second year in a row, Hicks will be performing at the Lake Martin Amphitheater for the Fourth of July. Although Hicks is busy creating new music and traveling the country, Hicks is no stranger to Lake Martin.

“I grew up jumping off of Chimney Rock,” Hicks said. “I’ve been coming to Lake Martin for years, and never in a million years did I think I’d be performing Fourth of July celebrations. I’ve got friends and family that are there, and it’s just a really, really great event.”

Originally from Birmingham, Hicks first went on American Idol in his late 20s, winning the show at 28 years old. Since then, he has achieved RIAA-certified platinum status and has become the first male winner to be featured on a GRAMMY-winning record, Jimmy Fallon’s Blow Your Pants Off and is also the first male to land a residency in Las Vegas, according to a press release of Hicks’ assets. He’s also been featured in various television shows including a production of “Shenandoah” by Serenbe Playhouse, a Broadway production of “Grease” in which he played Teen Angel as well as appearing on “Law & Order: SVU.” He has also hosted the Cynopsis-award winning INSP series, “State Plate.”

Now, Hicks has been working on new music that will be released this year. He’s recently dropped some new music over the last two years; however, for his performance on Lake Martin, he plans to bring back some music from his American Idol roots in addition to his new music.

“I like doing a little bit of Bob Seger down at the lake,” Hicks said. “I also enjoy doing songs off my previous albums and some stuff off of American Idol.”

In addition to spending time with family and friends on Lake Martin, Hicks also looks forward to being part of Lake Martin’s firework show.

“The firework show is rocking,” Hicks said. “The band’s rocking; the fireworks are rocking. I just enjoy this time of year on Lake Martin and to be able to perform is a blessing.”

After his performance on Lake Martin, Hicks will be heading back to Nashville where he will have a performance at the Grand Ole Opry on July 18. Ultimately, Hicks looks forward to coming back to his home state to celebrate the Fourth.

“I’ve definitely been all across the state growing up (as a performer),” Hicks said. “I like to say the night I won American Idol was the only night Alabama and Auburn fans agreed on something for me, so I’m excited to come back home and perform. I get to come back and perform in Alabama just a few times a year, and this is one of them and I’m looking forward to it.”
