In a historical comeback, Donald Trump has been elected the 47th president of the United States.
Trump is the first president since Grover Cleveland in the 1800s to return from a presidential election defeat to win the following cycle.
In all three local counties, Trump easily took the victory en route to a win in Alabama. In Elmore County, Trump took the most lopsided victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, 31,336-9,764. Trump won Tallapoosa County by nearly 10,000 votes with the former president capturing 14,881 votes to Harris' 4,974.
In Coosa County, Trump won 3,750 to 1,475.
The Associated Press called the national election in favor of Trump early Wednesday morning after Trump captured Wisconsin, putting him over the 270 threshold in the electoral votes. As of 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, the Associated Press had called all but four states, including Michigan, Nevada, Arizona and Alaska, all of which Trump led in Wednesday morning.
Trump spoke to the public at a rally in Florida in the early hours of Wednesday morning shortly after the Associated Press called battleground state Pennsylvania in favor of Trump.
"We are going to help our country heal," Trump told hundreds of cheering supporters in a widely televised speech. "We have a country that needs help and it needs help very badly. We're going to fix our borders. We're going to fix everything about our country. We made history for a reason tonight and the reason is going to be just that."
