The City of Tallassee has sold six surplus vehicles.
The automobiles had been sitting at the City Shop since they stopped working or were wrecked. City employees had determined they cost more than they were worth to be repaired. Previously the Tallassee City Council voted to surplus the vehicles and place them on the auction block and sell them via sealed bid.
The Tallassee City Council voted at Monday night’s meeting to accept a $250 bid for a 2002 Ford Explorer, a $401 bid for a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, a $350 bid for a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria, a $601 bid for a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria, a $1,650 for a 2003 Chevy Silverado and a $501 bid for a 2011 Ford Escape.
“Winners have 10 days to pay and pick up the vehicles,” Mayor Sarah Hill said.
To ease almost constant repairs of a water line down E.B. Payne Senior Drive from downtown to Southside Middle School and on to the industries down Highway 229, the council approved a contract to begin design and the bidding process for the installation of a new line along Alabama Power right of ways. The path avoids rock in roadways that creates most of the issues.
The council voted to cancel the May 26 meeting as it falls on Memorial Day.
The next meeting of the Tallassee City Council is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday, May 12.
