It was a great year for sports in Tallapoosa County, with some teams making history while others are right on the verge. Either way, we can all collectively agree that this year in sports was magical.
You could venture out to say it was the year of the Rebels, who walked away with two state championships — one in football and one in fishing. Even looking towards the baseball team, who made it to the semifinals for the first time in school history, all the while the softball team is coming off an impressive showing at the AHSAA Class 2A Regional Tournament.
Horseshoe Bend was no slouch either; Hagen Whiteard led both the volleyball team and softball team to state appearances this year. Elijah Smith walked away with another first-place finish at the state track meet in discus. In addition, the football team broke its eight-year streak of missing the playoffs while also finishing with a winning record.
Both of Benjamin Russell’s basketball teams captured area titles while making waves in Montgomery in the playoffs. Dadeville won the indoor track state championship back in February. The list goes on and on.
We’ve got to see legendary athletes like Reeltown’s Tae Martin cement his legacy as one of the best two-way players in the state while signing to play college football at the Division I level. Benjamin Russell’s Cederian Morgan continues to garner attention from some of the most prestigious universities in the nation, all looking to nab a piece of the football standout.
Other athletes cement their legacy at their school while taking the next steps to college athletics as we see a plethora of student-athletes sign their Letters of Intent during this year’s cycle of signing days.
The 2024-2025 athletic season was full of highs and lows, but still many teams got their fair share of success which can only lead to excitement for next year.
