Although summer is in full-swing, school will be back in session before we know it. Back-to-school season is often full of mixed emotions for kids and parents. As children return to school, they may long for summer to return and be filled with dread at the prospect of homework and tests. However, school often also brings great experiences such as seeing friends again after a long break. School is when there is so much discovery, in both learning and ourselves. It is when young people begin to mold their passions and talents.
School season can also be a strange time for parents as they may feel relief from a fun but busy summer. It may also feel uneasy for some with a house more quiet than usual.
However, school offers so many opportunities for unique memories between parents and children, especially with football season on the horizon and the return of Friday night lights.
Children and teenagers don’t realize the wealth of opportunities before them in their youth, and the great amount of experimentation at their fingertips. These years are meant for embracing new hobbies, sports and community service. There is so much to do at this age as young people are afforded the most valuable commodity — time.
Adults often juggle a job, family obligations and so much more, which leaves time very slim for passions they once enjoyed for hours a day or week. Remaining in shape even eventually becomes another thing to juggle as time works against the body and the time available to exercise becomes harder to squeeze into the schedule.
So encourage young people to embrace the school year with all the boring parts, as the time in between can be filled with so much adventure.
